Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about Disabled Travel in Europe

Is wheelchair travel in Europe by train possible?
Absolutely.  See our accessible europe travel by train page.

What supplies do I need for wheelchair travel in Europe?
You definitely want a map, a compass, a spare inner tube, a camera, a phrase book, and an electrical adapter.  A complete list can be found on our disabled travel supplies page.

What is the most common mistake that wheelchair travelers in Europe make?
Many people focus solely on finding an accessible hotel.  They think that when they get their destination they can just figure out how to overcome the accessibility challenges as they go.  Consequently, they end up more frustrated and having a less enjoyable trip than if they had done more planning before the trip.

How far in advance should I plan my trip?
Many hotels only have 1 or 2 disabled rooms which fill up quickly in the summer.  We recommend you contact us at least 3 months before your trip so you will have plenty of accessible rooms to choose from.

How much do your accessible holiday packages cost?
It varies depending on location.  You can find our prices on our accessible holidays page.  We can find you inexpensive hotels which usually more than offsets our trip planning fee.  Using our services saves you money.

Do you offer free disabled travel advice?
Yes, you can find extensive disabled travel tips for Europe on our Disabled Travel Advice page.

Which cities will you be performing accessibility research on next?
We will be visiting Rome, Florence, Siena, Assisi, and Venice in the summer of 2011 to perform accessibility research.

We plan more trips to Paris than anywhere else.

What are your top recommended cities for wheelchair travel in Europe?
London and Berlin are quite accessible...especially if it's your first trip to Europe in a wheelchair

What are your favorite "off the beaten path" destinations?
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a magnificent medieval town in Germany.  Görlitz is another great small German town.  Bruges is magnificent (with a whole lot of cobblestones!).  Annecy is a beautiful town in the French Alps.
