Your accessible driving tour of the Italian Riviera will begin when your guide and driver pick you up from the cruise terminal in a wheelchair accessible van. You will begin in Genoa (in Italian, Genova) where you will see the Palazzi dei Rolli, a group of palaces and mansions used by prominent Genoese families during the time of the Republic of Genoa, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
You will also see the Piazza de Ferrari, the heart of the modern town, as it compares to the “carruggi” or narrow alleys of the Historical City Centre, which is also one of the best preserved old city centres in Europe!
The next stop on your Italian Riviera accessible driving tour is Santa Margherita Ligure, which you will get to by driving along the scenic coastal roads through Recco, where you will have a very wide panoramic view of the Tigullio Gulf—and great photo opportunities!
Once in Santa Margherita Ligure, you will have lunch in an accessible Italian restaurant (price not included) before visiting the Waterfront Promenade harbour and fish market. Afterwards your guide will take you to the Villa Durrazo, a 17th century estate and botanical gardens. If you appreciate the beauty of ancient churches, then you will enjoy the next stop on the tour—the Basilica of Santa Margherita of Antioch, with its stunning Baroque interior! You will also have the option to visit an accessible beach in Santa Margherita Ligure.
The final stop on your accessible Italian Riviera driving tour is Portofino, where you will drive through the Portofino Regional National Park, home to one of the world’s largest concentration of Mediterranean flora, including olive trees and chestnut trees!
You will also have the opportunity to taste the different kinds of local “Focaccia” (including “Focaccia al formaggio”) at a local bakery that has been in business over 100 years! Walk/roll along the seaside promenade to see the picturesque shops and luxury yachts in the harbour before taking a break on the famous “piazzetta” for a drink or one of the local specialties!

The Best of Italian Riviera Accessible Driving Tour has a 4 star Sage Accessibility Rating because it uses a wheelchair accessible van and follows a step-free route. It did not receive a higher rating because you will encounter mild cobblestones and the guides are unable to push a wheelchair.
The photo below shows the wheelchair accessible van you will be using for the tour.
Some of the best artwork in Genoa is found above the doorways of Renaissance homes in the old town. There is no map to find them so a local guide is necessary to find and explain them.
The scenic drive between Genoa, Santa Margherita Ligure, and Portofino is a great opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Italian Riviera. You will have the opportunity to stop and take photographs at some breathtaking viewpoints!
In Portofino, you will stop at a bakery to taste the local specialty– Focaccia de formaggio!
If you can transfer to a seat in a normal vehicle and do not wish to use a wheelchair accessible van, you may be able to receive lower rates on this tour. Contact us for more information.
