Accessible Klaipeda and Palanga Amber Museum

This 6 hour Klaipeda and Palanga guided tour is a unique experiences that combines a panoramic overview of Old Town Klaipeda with a visit to the picturesque seaside town of Palanga and its renowned Palace of Amber Museum. This tour is fully accessible using an accessible vehicle equipped with a ramp or lift to navigate between Klaipeda and Palanga.

This accessible driving tour begins with your friendly guide picking you up at the Klaipeda cruise dock or centrally located hotel in an accessible van. You’ll then head out on a short drive to the Old Town, where you will enjoy a comfortable panoramic drive through the city center. Being the oldest town in Lithuania, the city is peppered with charming, beautiful old architecture, houses and history. During your guided drive, you will stop to see the only existing revelin in Klaipeda, a triangular fortification located in front of the inner works of the fortress. The ravelin located on the picturesque Jonas Hill. Enjoy lively commentary from your tour guide as you admire the beautiful structures, and take advantage of the wonderful photo opportunities here.

Continue on a scenic drive along to the picturesque seaside village of Palanga where you will start by visiting one of the most beautiful, best preserved parks in Lithuania, the Palanga Botanical Park. This wonderful place was founded in 1897, it surrounds the Palanga Palace and is home to well over 500 different kinds of trees, bushes and colorful flowers. Escorted by your tour guide, you will enjoy a leisurely stroll around the park as you admire the beautiful sculptures, water and architectural features.

Next, you will enjoy a memorable visit to the renowned Palace of Amber located right by the Botanical Park. Embark on an interior tour of the fascinating exhibits and displays.The beautiful museum is housed in an incredible 19th century neoclassical mansion and allegedly houses over 30,000 pieces of amber! Admire the beautiful paintings, furniture from the 18th century and a collection of different amber pieces. You will also have time to purchase gifts or souvenirs in the onsite gift shop.

Finally, your tour will end with a leisurely stroll along the Basanavicius street towards the Palanga Sea Bridge. This area is peppered charming cafes, restaurants, shops and city highlights. You will have some free time to enjoy the area, sit down for a lunch on your own and do some souvenir shopping if you desire.

Accessibility Details

The Accessible Klaipeda and Palanga Amber Museum received a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it uses an accessible van. It also follows a completely step-free tour route and includes accessible restrooms along the way. The amount of walking/rolling on this tour is limited. It did not receive a higher rating because there are some inclines in the area near the Sea Bridge in Palanga.

The accessible van used for this tour is equipped with a wheelchair ramp or lift to enter. It is suitable for manual wheelchairs, power chairs and mobility scooters alike.

The Palace of Amber Museum is located right off of the Botanical Garden. There are wheelchair accessible, flat, gravel paths to navigate the area outside.

The Museum is equipped with ramps and a lift to make wheelchair access easy. Your tour guide will lead you using a completely step-free path to explore the interior. There is also an accessible restroom available inside.

Admire beautiful exhibitions inside the Museums

The area near Basanavicius street is mostly flat and smooth with curb cuts throughout There are some inclines to reach the views near the seaside that have a slight incline to reach (see photo on the right below).
