Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour

ST300_IMG_1256On this accessible tour of Sorrento and Pompeii, your local tour guide will arrange for the Circumvesuviana train to be re-routed to make the route accessible!

Normally, trains leaving Pompeii depart from a platform that can only be accessed by a tunnel that has steps at both ends of it. By re-routing the train, we ensure that an accessible train journey to Pompeii is possible.

A private car will start off your tour by bringing you from the Naples cruise dock to the Circumvesuvius train station. After your train ride to Pompeii and your accessible tour there, you’ll continue on the train to Sorrento.

Your Sorrento accessible tour will visit the some of the charming piazzas, streets, and stores, before taking the ferry back to Naples

Important note:

– These train tours are unavailable in July and August because of the heat.

If you’d like to visit Pompeii and Sorrento by car or accessible van instead of by train, you could choose the Pompeii, Sorrento, & Capri Handicapped Accessible Tour or thePompeii & Amalfi Coast Accessible Tour.

Accessibility Description

The Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour has a 3 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it has step-free routes throughout the tour. Tour participants will encounter some uneven terrain in Pompeii and some cobblestones in Sorrento, but wheelchair users should have little problem.

This tour did not receive a higher accessibility rating because wheelchair users will need to be able to transfer into a car. If you would like to stay in your wheelchair during the tour, you can choose one of the tours with a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating: theNaples & Sorrento Accessible Shore Excursion or the Pompeii & Amalfi Coast Accessible Tour.

The tour guide for your Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour will be holding a sign with your name waiting for you at the accessible Naples cruise terminal.

Transportation from the Naples cruise terminal to the Circumvesuviana will be provided by a car for groups of two people or less. Groups between three people and seven people will use the accessible van shown in the photos shown below.

Disabled passengers on the Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tourwill need to be able to manage one step to get into the train from Naples to Pompeii. Your tour guide will be able to provide assistance.

Most tourists enter Pompeii using the uphill entrance covered in enormous cobblestones (shown in the photo on the left). Your Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour will use an accessible Pompeii entrance instead (shown in the photo on the right).

In order to meet the accessibility needs of all visitors, the Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour uses a variety of wheelchair ramps (shown on the left) and pavement (shown on the right) to take the most accessible path possible.

You will avoid the extremely non-wheelchair friendly paths that most tours take which involve stairs (shown in the photo on the left) and non-continuous sidewalks (shown in the photo on the right).

Your Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour will use the train to go from Pompeii to Sorrento. Your Sorrento accessible tour will include a visit to the Sorrento main square which is covered in smooth pavement (shown in the photo on the left) and a stop at a wheelchair accessible viewpoint of the surrounding bay. What a view!

Wheelchair users will be rolling over the medium cobblestones with 4 star smoothness. Your Pompeii & Sorrento Handicapped Accessible Tour will include plenty of time to shop in the small boutiques.

Your journey from Sorrento back to Naples will use a ferry with a wheelchair accessible ramp to get onboard.
