Disabled Access at the Orsay Museum

Orsay Museum Disabled Access – The Musée d’Orsay is without a doubt the best impressionist museum in the world. The collection of paintings by Monet, Renoir, Degas, Manet, Cezanne, and others is truly world class. It is not nearly as big as the Louvre Museum and can be visited in under two hours. It’s located on the other side of the river from the Louvre in what used to be a train station. The collection picks up where the Louvre left off in the 19th century.

Disabled access to the Orsay Museum is through Entrance C which is located at the corner of the building furthest away from the Seine River. The wheelchair friendly entrance has a slow rotating door and is step-free. Inside there are wheelchair accessible toilets and elevators to get to the various floors. Admission is free for disabled visitors and a companion. Loaner wheelchairs and stools are available.

Orsay Museum disabled access is possible in 95% of the exhibits. When I did the 90 minute guided tour, there was another wheelchair user on the tour and neither one of us had a problem keeping up with the group. At the time, part of the museum was closed for renovation and the tour route was very short. Even when the museum opens up fully, it is still not very large and should not be a problem to tour.

Taxis can drop you off the street that runs between the museum and the Seine River. The route from the taxi drop-off to the accessible entrance is 60 meters over flat ground without cobblestones and is shown in the map below.
