This wheelchair-friendly guided tour starts with your private, professional guide meeting you at your centrally located Bologna hotel or designated meeting point in the city center. From here, you will set out on a leisurely stroll at a comfortable pace to enjoy the highlights of the city. Experience the beautiful Piazza Neptune, home to the famous Fountain of Neptune. This stands as a symbol of power of the Pope, representing how he ruled the world as Neptune ruled the seas. Continue to Piazza Maggiore in the very heart of the city. Here, you will see and learn about the many significant structures located in this major square, including the Palazzo deiNotai, Palazzo d’Accursio, Palazzo del Podesta and Palazzo dei Bianchi.
Next, you will enjoy a memorable interior visit to the glorious Basilica of San Petronio. Built between 1388 and 1479, it is the tenth-largest church in the world (the largest church built of brick). The Basilica was dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Saint Petronius, who was the bishop of Bologna in the fifth century. Have your camera ready for some incredible photos of the stunning interior.
On this wheelchair friendly tour, you will also stroll along Piazza Santo Stefano, which is dominated by 7 beautiful churches and buildings such as the Bolognini Isolani Palace and Palazzo Isolani. You will also see Le Due Torri, the two towers, Garisenda Tower and Asinelli Tower. These are a well-known symbol of Bologna and a must-see landmark of the city.
At the end of your guided tour, you will enjoy a short accessible transfer back to the Bologna train station. You will once again board the accessible train for your return trip to Florence. Once back in Florence, you will be picked up by your driver and accessible van and escorted back to your accessible Florence hotel.

I gave the Accessible Bologna Day Trip from Florence a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it is mostly flat and smooth, with some areas of mild to moderate cobblestones.It did not get a 5 star rating because the total length of rolling/walking on this tour is approximately 2 km (1.6 miles). The tour has been designed to include accessible restrooms along the way.
The tour can include accessible transfers from:
- Accessible Florence hotel to the Florence train station
- Bologna train station to Bologna city center
- Bologna city center to Bologna train station
- Florence train station to your accessible Florence hotel.
The tour also includes accessible round-trip train transfers from Florence to Bologna. We will assist in booking disabled assistance.
This tour follows a flat route with almost no slopes to it. The surface of the route includes some smooth sidewalks, some mild cobblestones, and in a few places some moderate cobblestones. Example photos of the tour route are shown below.
The area outside the Basilica of San Petronio is flat and easy to navigate. A special ramp is located o the right side of the church to avoid the stairs at the front (see photo on the right below).
The interior is flat and smooth throughout, and exceptionally beautiful!
