This 3- hour Classic Vienna Wheelchair Accessible Tour is the perfect way to get an overview of some of Vienna’s very best highlights firsthand. Escorted by your friendly, local Vienna tour guide, you’ll explore the heart of the city with a stroll you won’t soon forget! This tour is completely step-and curb free, making it ideal for disabled visitors and their families during their accessible Vienna holiday!

This accessible guided tour starts with your private, professional guide meeting you at your centrally located accessible Vienna hotel or another central meetup location close to the Opera building, which will be your first highlight of the day. Enjoy this spectacular piece of architecture as your knowledgeable tour guide shares the fascinating longstanding history of the old building with you. The tour continues along Albertinaplatz, a square located right behind the Opera House. Here, you’ll see the famous Monument Against War and Fascism sits, commemorating the dark years when Austria came under Nazi rule (1938-1945).

Next, on this accessible Vienna walking tour your guide will take you by the former imperial palace, The Hofburg, built in the 13th century and expanded in the centuries following. The palace has been the seat of power of the Habsburg dynasty rulers, and today it serves as the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria.  Following this, your Vienna guide will lead escort you to the beautiful St. Augustin Church while sharing incredible details and anecdotes (including unbelievable ones!) about the lives and deaths of the empresses and emperors.

This memorable wheelchair friendly Vienna tour continues with more must see highlights, including the Hofburgkappelle, where the Vienna boys choir has performed every Sunday morning since 1498, and the imperial treasury, which houses the crown jewels. You’ll also stop at the majestic Hero Square (Heldenplatz), where you’ll see the famous statue of the confronting horsemen.

The final part of this accessible Vienna tour includes seeing the popular Spanish riding school and learning about the story of the world famous Lipizzanhourses, a stroll down Kohlmarkt which is Vienna’s most elegant shopping street, and if time allows, a short stop at Demel confectionery, famous for their delicious pastries! Accessibility Description:

I gave the Classic Vienna Wheelchair Accessible Tour a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it includes step-free routes and is primarily flat. It also includes accessible bathrooms along the route. It did not get a higher rating because the tour participants will need to walk/roll along the route rather than drive, and there are some parts with mild cobblestones.

Paved and smooth sidewalks and curb cuts are present throughout most parts of this walking tour, similar to what is shown below by the Vienna Opera building.

Some places, including Albertinaplatz, you’ll experience some mild cobblestones and slopes. Your guide will help lead you using the most accessible paths.

The spectacular Hero Square is completely level and smooth (see photo on the left below). The Kohlmarkt which is Vienna’s most elegant shopping street are is mostly flat. Different types of pavement is present here but nothing too challenging for a wheelchair or scooter user.
