Essential Belize Accessible Shore Excursion

This Essential Belize Accessible Shore Excursion gives you a unique Belize experience with your family. Visit the popular Belize Zoo with over 150 different animals, enjoy a delicious lunch at an accessible restaurant and capture the incredible Mayan ruins of Altun Ha – all in one tour!

Start your day by meeting your tour guide by the Belize cruise dock. From here, you will board your accessible van and head out on a short drive to the Belize Zoo. Upon arrival at the zoo, your tour guide will escort you on a 2-hour private guided tour, admiring the lush green setting and admiring the many different animals.

An accessible guided tour at the Belize Zoo can’t be compared to a visit to your hometown zoo. The wildlife housed here is native to the region, which means you will get a chance to see tapirs, toucans, harpy, eagles, jaguars and howler monkeys! The Belize Zoo is settled upon 29 acres of tropical savanna and has over 150 different animals! In total, over 45 species all native to Belize are exhibited in the Zoo, including orphaned, rescued and rehabilitated animals. This private tour at the zoo is fully accessible with no steps to navigate. Your guide will make sure to stick to the wheelchair accessible routes and there is also an accessible bathroom available on site.

Once your guided tour of the Zoo is over, your driver will make a stop at an accessible restaurant, where you can enjoy a delicious local meal (cost not included) and take a rest before your next stop.

The final stop on your day is the intriguing ancient Mayan ruins at Altun Ha. Your local tour guide is eager to introduce you to Mayan history and culture here. While you will not be able to climb the temples without navigating a lot of steps, it is possible for you to stand/sit on one part of the ground and see all the temples in one sight! You will also have time to visit the new Althun Ha visitor center.

Accessibility Description:

The Essential Belize Accessible Shore Excursion has a 3-star accessibility rating. The route has been customized to make sure it is entirely step-free, and your knowledgeable tour guide is familiar with accessibility in each location. Please note, this tour did not receive a higher accessibility rating because the accessible van uses a small portable ramp which is not suitable for larger electric mobility equipment types. You will also experience some uneven ground/grass at the Althun Ha ruins site.

The accessible vans in Belize are equipped with a portable ramp. If you prefer (and are able) to transfer and use the steps at the front, your equipment can be stored in the back.

The path followed at the zoo is mostly flat with small pebbles.

There are a few inaccessible areas that will be avoided due to stairs or uneven ground.
