Getting from Paris to Versailles in a Wheelchair

  Wheelchair Accessible Transportation to Versailles from Paris – A visit to Versailles Palace makes for a great day trip from Paris. Wheelchair users and other disabled tourists can take the train from Paris Gare St. Lazare. Trains leave multiple times each hour so you do not need to make a reservation in advance. When you get to the Gare St. Lazare station, buy your ticket and let them know you will need assistance getting on and off the train.

Staff at the Gare St. Lazare train station can put out a ramp for wheelchair users to get onto the train to Versailles.

 

The train door is definitely wide enough for a wheelchair user and there is no bar in the middle like there is in some other trains.

The diagram on the wall inside the train shows which stations the train is going to stop at. The train starts at Gare Saint-Lazare and finishes at Versailles Rive Droite station. This wheelchair accessible travel to from Paris to Versailles takes about 30 minutes.

  

If you told the staff at Gare St. Lazare that you will need assistance, a staff member will meet you at Versailles Rive Droite station with a ramp.

The route from Versailles Rive Droite station to Versailles Palace is 1.2 km (less than a mile). If you don’t want to walk/roll that far, you can ask staff at the train station to call a taxi for you. Note: the Versailles Rive Gauche station is closer to the palace, but there is conflicting information on how accessible it is.

The picture below shows the approch to the Versailles Palace and the many tour busses parked in the parking lot.

After your wheelchair accessible visit to Versailles Palace, you will return to the Versailles Rive Droite station for your return to Paris.  The ramp into the station is on the left side of the building.

 

Getting to Versailles by train is definitely possible for wheelchair users and it’s the cheapest way to get there. The 1.2 km route from the Versailles Rive Droite train station to Versailles Palace is the most challenging part of the trip. If you would prefer a van with a wheelchair ramp to transport you from Paris, we can have one pick you up at one of the accessible hotels in Paris as part of our comprehensive accessible Paris holiday package.
