Handicapped Access at the Athens National Archaeological Museum

The accessible entrance to the National Archaeological Museum is in the upper left corner of this picture.   Nearly all of the Athens National Archaeological Museum has good handicapped access. There is wheelchair accessible ramp on the north side of the building on Herakleios Emperor Road. This will bring you into the 1st (main) floor. There is a nearby elevator down to the handicapped accessible restroom an the café. There is step-free access throughout the museum.

If you approach the accessible entrance coming from the main entrance you will have this ramp. There are English captions throughout the museum. There is no audioguide and no guided tours. The route from the Viktoria metro station is about 600 m and flat.

The National Archaeological Museum is the best museum in Athens. My favorite part was the display showing arrowheads excavated from the battle of the 300 Spartans who battled the Persians (made popular in the movie “300”). It is located to your left as you enter the accessible museum entrance.

Is there a wheelchair accessible entrance? Yes, on the north side of the museum on Herakleios Emperor Road there is level access into the museum (shown in the photos below).
Is the door push/pull, revolving, automated by a button, or motion activated? You will need to knock on the door so that a staff member can open it from the inside.

This ramp leads to the accessible entrance. A slightly easier approach is to stay on the sidewalk on the street north of the museum so you don't have to go up this ramp and the slope leading to it.  Knock on this door and a staff member will let you into the museum.
