Normandy Wheelchair Accessible Driving Tour from Paris

This Normandy Wheelchair Accessible Driving Tour from Paris takes you to all the must see WWII sites scattered across the beautiful Normandy region. You won’t just be snapping pictures and admiring historical sights from your vehicle, you’ll be making several stops to get out and experience them up close, while your professional, local guide enthusiastically explain and share the significance and history of each place with you.

Your day will start early when your private chauffeur picks you up from your accessible Paris hotel and escorts you to the St. Lazare train station, where you’ll take the train (pre-booked for you) to Caen. Assistance at both train stations will be arranged for you. Your friendly tour guide will meet you at the Caen train station to start your day of exploring Normandy!

You’ll make several stops along the most significant WWII places in the region, including Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, and Sainte-Mere-Eglise.

On this accessible WWII tour, you’ll visit the first American Cemetery on European Soil in WWII, the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. This impressive memorial site contains the graves of 9,387 American millitary personnel, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings. The memorial is centered by a 22 foot bronze statue, and also displays battle maps, authentic battle viewpoints and a “Walls of the Missing” with 1,557 names inscribed.

This accessible Normandy tour also takes you to Pointe de Hoc Ranger Monument which was created by the French to honor the American Second Ranger Battalion, who scaled the 100-foot cliffs and seized the German artillery pieces that could have fired on the American landing troops at Omaha and Utah beaches. The battlefield character of Point du Hoc is still intact. With the rain of bombs and shells the allies unleashed to neutralize this rocky point, severe destruction of the site took place and can still be seen by visitors today. In fact, more than 600 tons of bombs were dropped at this very place!

Finally, there will also be time to visit the fascinating Airborn Museum, a French museum dedicated to the memory of American paratroopers who were dropped into Normandy on the night of June 5th. – 6th. In 1944.

At the end of this accessible tour, your guide will bring you back to the Caen train station where you’ll board the pre-booked train back to Paris. Again assistance at both trainstations will be arranged for you. When you arrive at St. Lazare train station in Paris, your private chauffeur will be there waiting for you to return you to your accessible Paris hotel.

Accessibility Description

The tour routes used for the walking portions and interior visits are step free and has accessible restroom stops included along the way. It did not get a 5 star rating because the disabled person’s wheelchair cannot be wider than 24.4” inches. Wider wheelchairs will not fit through the train door openings, unless the wheelchair folds and the disabled person can transfer into a wheelchair provided by the train station staff.

In Normandy, the tour will take place in an accessible van equipped with a ramp.

Your English speaking expert guide is experienced in touring with disabled clients and will safely lead you through your Normandy adventure using step free and curb free wheelchair accessible routes.
